LA
VOLTA is an ensemble of 9 young musicians
ranging in age from 10 to 18, based at the
Musikschule Reinach in Canton Basel-Land,
Switzerland. Performing together with their
director Jürgen Hübscher, the ensemble
plays and sings a diverse repertoire that
encompasses dances and songs of the 13th through
18th Century, international folk music, and modern
popular music.
The ensemble's collection of musical instruments
include a variety of guitars of various sizes;
historical instruments such as the lute, baroque
guitar, and baroque mandolin; folk string
instruments from throughout Europe, North America
and Latin America; violins, flutes, and panpipes;
and an assortment of over 30 percussion
instruments.
Since their founding in 1984, LA VOLTA has built an
excellent reputation as an innovative youth
ensemble and trend-setter in musical education. The
ensemble has enchanted audiences and music critics
alike in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France,
Italy, Spain, Holland, Luxembourg, Denmark, the
Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Russia and Canada.
As representatives of young Swiss musicians, LA
VOLTA has been invited to numerous music education
conferences and youth music festivals, including
the Musik & Erziehung (AGMÖ Vienna),
Europäisches Musikfest der Jugend in Holland,
Music School Conventions and EGTA Conferences in
Germany and Switzerland, the Jugendkulturfestival
Berlin, and the Jugendorchester-Festival EXPO
Hannover and EXPO Schweiz.
LA VOLTA has performed at international guitar
festivals in Vienna, Berlin, and Salzburg, as well
as Esztergom (Hungary), Mikulov (Czech Republic),
Tychy (Poland), and Leverkusen, Bamberg,
Nürtigen, Wetzlar, Aschaffenburg, and Mannheim
in Germany. Thanks to a number of appearances on
television and radio and its five CDs to date, LA
VOLTA is reaching an ever growing circle of
listeners.
In 1999, the ensemble was awarded the prize for
cultural achievement by its home town of Reinach.
